About NorthKey
NorthKey is an organizational tool that helps people facing financial difficulty understand their situation, organize their documents, and prepare for conversations with professionals such as bankruptcy attorneys and credit counselors.
NorthKey is not a law firm, financial advisory service, credit counseling organization, or debt settlement company. Nothing on this website or within the NorthKey application constitutes legal advice, financial advice, or professional recommendations of any kind. No attorney-client relationship is created by using this service.
See our Important Information page for a full explanation of what NorthKey is and what it isn't.
Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using northkey.co or the NorthKey application, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
You must be at least 18 years of age to use NorthKey. By using the service, you represent that you meet this requirement.
Your account
When you create a NorthKey account, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.
You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account and to keep it up to date. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that provide false or misleading information.
Your financial information
NorthKey is designed to help you organize and understand your own financial information. The accuracy of any summaries, calculations, or guidance within the app depends entirely on the accuracy of the information you provide. NorthKey does not verify the information you enter and is not responsible for decisions made based on inaccurate or incomplete inputs.
The information you enter into NorthKey is yours. We do not claim ownership of your financial data or uploaded documents. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle and protect it.
What NorthKey is not
Using NorthKey does not constitute receiving legal advice, financial advice, or credit counseling. Any organizational guidance, checklists, or explanatory content within the app is informational and educational only.
NorthKey does not tell you whether to file for bankruptcy, which chapter of bankruptcy applies to you, whether you qualify for any debt relief program, or what the outcome of any legal or financial process will be. These determinations require a qualified professional who can review your specific situation.
Always consult a licensed attorney or certified financial professional before making decisions that affect your legal or financial situation.
Acceptable use
You agree to use NorthKey lawfully and in good faith. You agree not to:
- Use the service for any illegal purpose or in violation of applicable law
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the service or its infrastructure
- Introduce malware, viruses, or other harmful code into the service
- Scrape, copy, or systematically extract content from the service without our permission
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity or affiliation
- Use the service to harm, defraud, or harass others
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for violations of these terms.
Intellectual property
All content on northkey.co and within the NorthKey application — including text, design, code, and organizational frameworks — is owned by NorthKey and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without written permission.
Your financial data and uploaded documents remain yours. By uploading content to NorthKey, you grant us a limited license to store and process that content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you.
Third-party services and links
NorthKey may include links to third-party resources — such as legal aid organizations, nonprofit credit counselors, or educational content. These links are provided for your convenience and do not constitute an endorsement. NorthKey is not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of any third-party site.
Disclaimer of warranties
NorthKey is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the service — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any content or guidance within the app.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, NorthKey and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service — including financial losses, decisions made based on information within the app, or outcomes in any legal or financial proceeding.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from use of the service shall not exceed the amount you have paid to NorthKey in the twelve months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold NorthKey harmless from any claims, losses, or damages arising from your violation of these terms, your use of the service, or your infringement of any third-party rights.
Termination
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to NorthKey at any time for violations of these terms, for extended inactivity, or if we discontinue the service, with reasonable notice where practicable.
Upon termination, your right to use the service ends. We will handle your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and your deletion rights.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which NorthKey operates, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the service shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the effective date and, for material changes, notify users by email. Continued use of NorthKey after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
